Spinal Cord Injury
What are spinal cord injuries?
It is estimated that approximately 15,000 Australians live with a Spinal Cord Injury (SCI). SCI is caused by damage to the spinal cord and can occur due to trauma, cancer and or other neurological conditions. The level of impairment after a SCI is dependent on the level of damage to the spinal cord (i.e. cervical, thoracic or lumbar) and whether it is a complete (severed spinal cord) or incomplete (partially injured spinal cord) injury. After a SCI you may experience weakness, loss of sensation, loss of coordination and spasticity.
